Description
The next coin in Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts series – the 2018 1 oz Queen’s Beasts Griffin of Edward III Platinum. Ten heraldic beasts stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremony – each depicting the mythical animal of choice from her ancestors’ seals. The Royal Mint started the Queen’s Beasts series to celebrate each creature with a unique design every year.
Each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of 0.9995 pure platinum. Moreover, they also carry face values of £100 (GBP) since the United Kingdom Government has granted them legal tender status in the country.
Displaying a beautiful depiction of Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy by Susanna Blunt, the coin’s obverse is similar to all other circulation coinage in the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, the reverse sides bear the anticipated griffin design. Royal Mint Coin Designer Jody Clark has captured this mythical animal’s characteristics successfully. In fact, the painstaking detail that went into this design is apparent from the image inscribed on the shield, which showcases the Round Tower of Windsor Castle. The location is famous for being the place where King Edward III was born – the King who went on to adopt the griffin for the design of his private sigil.
These 2018 1 oz Queen’s Beasts Griffin of Edward III Platinum Coins are parts of the Queen’s Beasts collection of coins – making them essential to any coin collection that hopes to feature them all. Furthermore, the 0.9995 Pure Platinum weight makes these coins excellent investment assets that can be used to diversify precious metals portfolios.
